While Satine and Bo-Katan were close as children, it seemed almost destined that they'd walk opposite paths. Bo-Katan, meanwhile, inherited a set of traditional Mandalorian armor passed down through the Kryze family for generations. She had a sister named Satine who believed in the pacifist teachings of the New Mandalorians. Sometime during this era, Bo-Katan was born into House Kryze. However, holdouts who still kept to the traditional Mandalorian values and practices remained. A reckoning with what constant conflict had done to Mandalore led to the rise of the New Mandalorians, a pacifist faction who came to lead the planet. (Photo: Duchess Satine Kryze) The New Mandalorians and Civil WarĬenturies of warfare turned Mandalore's once verdant surface into a barren landscape. They took the weapon back to Mandalore and passed it down from generation to generation within their House. (It is unclear whether Tarre Vizsla left the Jedi Order to become Mand'alor, or if the Jedi Order's rules about attachments and titles among its members were different during the Old Republic era.) After Tarre Vizsla's death, the Darksaber came to rest in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where it remained until members of Houser Vizsla raided the temple during the fall of the Old Republic. After its creation, Tarre Vizsla wielded the Darksaber as leader of Mandalore, taking up the title of the Manda'alor. During his lifetime, Tarre Vizsla founded House Vizsla, which became one of Mandalore's most prestigious lineages He also forged the Darksaber, that unusual black-bladed lightsaber that remains Bo-Katan's fixation generations later. Those warriors fought in many galactic conflicts, including many battling the Jedi during the era of the Old Republic ( the old Star Wars Legends canon went into more detail, but those accounts are no longer canon).ĭuring the Old Republic era, a Force-sensitive Mandalorian named Tarre Vizla became the first Mandalorian to join the Jedi Order. What is known is that the planet, located in the galaxy's Outer Rim, bred warriors. Star Wars canon has offered few details about Mandalore's early history. Both the narrators did a good job on bringing the characters to life! This book was given to me for free at my request, and I provided this voluntary review.Ancient Mandalorian History and Tarre Vizsla, the Mandalorian Jedi Plenty of character development goes on with all the characters, and I thought the ending of the story was particularly satisfying. The friendships and budding romance all felt very real for middle schoolers, and it made the characters easy to relate to. I love the way that Baldwin escalated that fact by writing an in-school mystery for the main characters to solve. While starting a new year at school can be exciting, it can also be stressful. To get to the bottom of the mystery, Alissa and Marcus will have to dive in headfirst at the risk of not only their reputation, but possibly their safety as well. Things only escalate when Marcus’ father loses his job to be replaced by a washed-up athlete. When funds go missing at the school, our heroes from Camp Lenape, Marcus, Alissa, Janice, and Nate decide they’re going to investigate. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. They both have good differentiation between characters and are fun to listen to. It's a great YA read that will appeal to high schoolers on up, it was a fun read with the feel of the Scooby Do mysteries minus the dog! Narrator- The two narrators work well together - one chapter read by each depending on who's perspective it's in. The teens all ban together to try to figure out what's going on. It involves Marcus's dad and something odd in the school, his dad starts drinking and acting strange. The schools going through budget cuts but things aren't adding up. This is a story about four high schoolers that are trying to figure out a mystery going on in their high school. and recommending they wait for marriage, teens talking about awkward sex talks with parents I didn't read the first book but I was never lost in the story, so while probably better in order it can be read on it's own. Parents- PG13 - fine for middle school and up There is drinking in this book and dealing with alcoholism Language- PG, minor and texting conversations WTF Violence- None Sexual Content- kissing, nothing major, pressure from friends about not kissing yet, parents asking if they've.
