![]() Unfortunately for fans of Chalotra as Yennefer (who haven't read the books, anyway), The Witcher ended its first season without revealing what happened to Yennefer after she unleashed her fiery Chaos to try to defeat Fringilla and the forces of Nilfgaard. It's a testament to Anya Chalotra's performance that she was able to cohesively tackle such different periods in Yennefer's life. There was no confusing pre-transformation Yennefer with transformed sorceress Yennefer, despite Anya Chalotra clearly playing both versions of the character. In the process of losing her hunchback and the crooked jaw, Yennefer gained a lot of dark eyeshadow! The transformation was clear in her structure, her makeup choices, and even her hair. All those things supported me and an incredible team to have those conversations with and bring that to life. It's not the prosthetic of the back and it's not the mouthguard that I had in my mouth, but I was still hiding something behind that thick makeup I have on. She went on in her chat with CinemaBlend to explain how her look as post-transformation Yennefer continued to help her performance:Īnd then exactly the same for when she's transformed. Season 1 of The Witcher ended with Yennefer's fate very much in question after the battle at Sodden Hill.Īnya Chalotra was no longer in the hunchback stage of Yennefer's life by the time of Sodden Hill, however. ![]() While she was told that she would never regain her womb, which she lost in exchange for gaining her beauty and physical changes, and was unsatisfied with her life, she wasn't beaten. Yennefer survived, however, and she would go on to survive all manner of challenges that would have killed mages with less natural talent and drive. Yennefer certainly was miserable when she was first sold to Tissaia by the man who raised her, to the point that she attempted suicide. That helped the way I used my voice, the way I responded to people.Īlthough Anya Chalotra in her normal life doesn't face the same disadvantages as young Yennefer with her hunchback in particular, the prosthetic she wore for her character during that pre-transformation era of her life helped her get into Yennefer's headspace. The prosthetic, the hunchback, made me look at the floor and because I was looking at the floor I was a lot more self-conscious and I felt inferior and I was scared to use my voice. Automatically when you're in the chair for three hours before you go onto set, as the younger Yennefer, I am getting into the headspace of the character. I would have loved more time to develop and to discover what those inhibitions were, those restrictions were. Of course you have that huge physical demand of her in her childhood. Find out more about the bicolour tabby here, and read more about the British Shorthair Bicolour.īlue tabbies are very rare, and incredibly pretty. This gives them a white 'face mask' that is very striking. Bicolour kittens have the White Spotting gene that restricts the development of pigment on the tummy, the legs and part of the face of the kitten. The Bicolour silver tabbyĪll types of tabby and silver tabby British Shorthair cats and kittens can also be bicolour. In a black silver tabby cat the pattern is in silver and black, and creates a striking appearance. The pattern resembles the wings of a butterfly over the back of the cat. It is also called the blotched or marbled tabby. The classic silver tabby pattern is very unique. The Classic silver tabby British Shorthair Of course, this could be due to a selection of polygenes. There is some evidence of this because some mackerel tabbies can look almost spotty at times, and some silver spotties can look almost like mackerels. The second is that spotted cats are simply mackerel tabbies that have been bred over the years in such a way that the stripes have become interrupted to the extent that they now appear like spots. The first is that the spotting gene is a mutation and a unique and additional gene. The spotting gene is not yet fully understood, but there are two main theories to explain it. The spotted gene is an additional gene that works on top of the underlying tabby pattern. The genetics of the silver tabby British Shorthair See a litter of our silver tabby kittens growing up: If Cruella De Vil had a British Shorthair, she would have a silver spotty for sure! These beautiful kittens tend to be more silver/paler than the other tabby patterns, because there is less of the black pattern on top of the silver. The Spotted silver tabby British Shorthair Black silver mackerel tabbies are a real favourite of ours.Īs with all tabby patterns, they can come in any colour and any pattern combination. The original Whiskas cat is a black silver mackerel tabby, although they have now also used a Classic Silver tabby, and even a spotty one too. Think of Tigger! Mackerel tabbies are beautiful, stripey cats a little like zebras. The Mackerel silver tabby British Shorthair This is being done particularly in red and cream British Shorthair cats, because their tabby patterns are for more visible than they are in other colours. ![]() So by using ticked tabbies, we can ensure that our kittens' tabby patterns have minimal effect and are therefore much less likely to show through. The breed standard for a non-tabby cat requires that a ‘self’, or non tabby cat, does not have a tabby pattern showing through on their fur. Some people are working with ticked tabbies to introduce the ticked tabby gene to their non-tabby cats. ![]() Interestingly, all cats are tabby cats, but some have a gene that masks the tabby appearance. A silver ticked tabby British Shorthair cat has a silver undercoat with black tips (or blue, chocolate, etc depending on what colour the cat is). The ticked tabby gene restricts the pigment in the hair to the tips. The ticked gene is an additional gene that works on top of the underlying tabby pattern. The ticked silver tabby has a very interesting appearance. There are 4 variations on the tabby gene, and each results in a different appearance in the tabby pattern: The ticked silver tabby British Shorthair This removes the pigment from the hairs, giving the silver effect rather than a more cream-yellow effect of a non-silver tabby.Īll silver tabby cats also carry one or two copies of the Agouti gene, which is the gene that is responsible for the tabby pattern. The most common silver tabby, and the one that people think of, is the black silver tabby.Īll silver tabby cats carry either one or two copies of the silver gene. All silver tabby cats can come in all of the basic colours of British Shorthair cats: black, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, cream and tortie. The friendships and budding romance all felt very real for middle schoolers, and it made the characters easy to relate to. I love the way that Baldwin escalated that fact by writing an in-school mystery for the main characters to solve. While starting a new year at school can be exciting, it can also be stressful. However, the process of examining ancient world artifacts through archaeology can be hampered by artifact theft and collection, which raises certain ethical concerns.Īrtifacts can originate from any archaeological environment, such as being buried along with a corpse, places where they were used as votive offerings, residential settings, or hoards, such as those found in wells, and even ancient rubbish dumps. There are many types of artifacts, and they are commonly mistaken for ecofacts (such as discovered animal parts) and features (elements in the landscape that appear to be manmade, usually structural) all three can be discovered together at archaeological sites.Ī wide range of studies is carried out in order to better understand historical artifacts and subsequently offer information about them to the scientific and public worlds. You should only pick up Putty Squad if you’re a fan of the original, and have an unhealthy affinity towards platformers. The good news is everything is bright so it’s easy to differentiate friend from foe, but the actual visuals themselves are dull and uninspired. One of the oddest things about the game is that it doesn’t look like a PS4 release at all - in fact, it would have been fine on the PS1, albeit without a slight visual sheen that’s currently present. Different themes attempt to keep you interested during every sequence shift, but you’ll start feeling deja vu sooner than later. Then there’s a challenge mode that tasks you with completing certain goals, which should keep you busy far after the campaign is done. The entire campaign is also fairly massive, which is good news for hardcore puzzle-platformer fans who need something to keep them busy. Although it can be dull beyond measure, Putty Squad as a general rule has a decent stable of puzzles to work through. ![]() The actual stages can be anywhere from sloppy to well designed, and the latter almost feels like the team accidentally stumbled upon a winner after just pasting random objects in. The strangest thing about the level design is the fact that it sort of just haphazardly comes together by no real logical plan. You’ll have power-ups at your disposal to get around and complete your goals, like the ability to “squish” up or down to climb, the power of inflation, or the chance to wield weapons like rockets and bombs - you can also punch left or right at will as a last resort, which takes care of most of the enemies in the game. Levels are packed to the gills with foes and hazards, but most of them function just like they did back in the ’90s - with a limited amount of AI that’s easy to outwit. There’s technically a timer but the levels are mostly built around exploration, so you aren’t really forced to rush through them. Because there’s no surprises or any real “new” concepts outside of scattered items, every level ostensibly feels the same. There’s more of an emphasis on puzzle elements than anything else, but the fact remains that Putty Squad is overly simplistic. All you have to do is visit each level (sectioned off like arenas) and collect a certain amount of blobs, then head for the door - that’s about it. That is, if you can completely ignore the other major problem - the gameplay is also dated (and the frogurt is still cursed). The first thing you’ll definitely notice about Putty is that it still looks dated, even though it’s technically billed as a “remake.” The animations are nice and the framerate is consistent however, so if you can deal with the sub-par visuals and lack of effort you won’t have very many problems. Putty Squad (3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Vita) The only problem is, System 3 Software has opted to charge $29.99 for a decidedly dated game - which is a bit of a problem. Of all of the games to get a PS4 remake, you’d probably never put Putty Squad, an SNES game from 1994, at the top of the list. But here we are in 2014 with a full-on re-imagining, with more or less the same platforming mechanics that still work nearly 20 years later. ![]() Its founder, Piotr Korobov, learnt the process from a German manufacturer, Johann Stobwasser, whose predecessors had brought the lacquer-box manufacturing art to Europe from Japan. If you choose wisely, your Russian lacquer boxes will not only give you enormous pleasure, but will also be wonderful heirlooms to pass down to future generations.ĭuring my research on these boxes, it was interesting to discover that a Russian venture to produce these had been set up as early as 1798. It is not only a constant source of joy and wonderment to me. And if I ever feel depressed or worried, I can escape into the world of magic by sitting down for 15 minutes and looking at my collection. My own collection of Russian boxes is such that I always have an illuminating magnifying glass handy. If one becomes interested in Russian lacquer boxes, it is immediately apparent that a good box is the work of a true artist – one who has spent many years perfecting a skill that 99% of the rest of us can only wonder at and admire. But arguably the most popular collections are in the art field. Some people collect stamps, others baseball caps, yet others have a passion for vintage cars, or toy frogs, or beer steins. Most of us have collected one things or another during our lives. No wonder that of all the things that I have ever collected, Russian boxes are by far my favourite! The painting is almost unbelievable – so fine that some of the lines have been painted with a brush that only has two or three squirrel hairs. It is a magnificent, if miniaturised piece of exquisite art. It is a small – 12 cm by 8 cm – box, made of lacquered papier-mâché, and then hand-painted by an incredibly gifted artist. I’m using my large magnifying glass to closely examine one of my favourite Russian boxes. In part, this long lead time can be attributed to the complexity of the molds themselves. It often takes 5-7 weeks to manufacture tooling and 2-4 weeks to produce and ship parts. However, injection molding has a longer lead time. Initial lead times are long.Ī CNC machined part can be delivered within 5-10 days, and industrially 3D printed parts often have lead times of 3-5 days. An injection molding manufacturing partner can help you maximize your budget and refine your mold design so you can produce the best possible part for the best price. Although you can reuse these molds again and again and save on tooling costs down the line, it’s worth considering how much molds cost upfront. Tooling for a simple design and a small production run can cost between $2,000 and $5,000, but tooling for large, complex molds ready for full-scale production can cost several times that. Since custom tooling must be created for each injection molded part, initial start-up costs are high and this isn’t economical for low-volume production runs. There are plenty of advantages of plastic injection molding, but it’s not without its drawbacks. However, you can easily regrind, melt, and reuse any sprues, runners, or other leftover plastic parts to save on material and reduce material waste. Though injection molding generates less post-production material waste than many other manufacturing processes, it still creates excess scraps. Plus, since injection molding uses the same mold for each part, you’ll have identical products. An aluminum mold will generally last between 5,000 and 10,000 cycles, and a full-scale steel production mold can last for over 100,000 cycles. Once you’ve created your mold, you can produce thousands of parts before needing to maintain your tooling. One of the main benefits of plastic injection molding is its high repeatability. It offers high repeatability and reliability. This helps maximize efficiency and gets the most out of each mold, allowing you to create hundreds of identical parts an hour at a low cost. ![]() Even if you have a complex geometry that takes around 120 seconds to mold, you can include several smaller parts in one larger mold. While it can take several minutes - or even hours - to 3D print or CNC machine a single part, most injection molding cycles only last 10 to 60 seconds. Consider using masterbatches, pre-colored resins, liquid colorants, or salt and pepper blends to achieve your desired color. You also have a variety of options when it comes to colors. For example, you might add glass fibers to your thermoplastic to create a strength-enhancing composite. You can also use a mixture of materials to produce a part with the strength, impact resistance, or stiffness you need. Commonly used materials include acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polyethylene (PE), polystyrene (PS), and polypropylene (PP). With all of these options, you’ll be able to find one that offers the right balance of physical, mechanical, and chemical properties. Today, there are over 25,000 engineered materials that are compatible with injection molding, including thermoplastics, thermosets, resins, and silicones. It’s compatible with a wide range of materials and colors. In some cases, you can even produce parts with tolerances of ± 0.125 mm (0.005’’), giving you parts that are accurate enough for most applications and comparable to 3D-printed or CNC machined parts. With injection molding, you can easily achieve repeatable part tolerances of ± 0.500 mm (0.020’’). ![]() However, you must pay attention to vent and gate placements, weld lines, corner transitions, wall thickness, rib and boss design, and more to ease ejection and achieve precise parts. Injection molding allows for large volumes of uniform, complex parts. It allows for complex geometries with tight tolerances. Many manufacturers turn to injection molding because: 1. Before you decide whether or not to injection mold your part, carefully consider the injection molding pros and cons. Injection molding has numerous applications in a wide variety of industries - from the automotive industry to the medical industry - but it isn’t the best choice for every project. It’s a highly repeatable process that enables companies to create high volumes of identical plastic parts with good tolerances at a low cost per part. Injection molding involves injecting molten plastic into carefully designed molds before cooling and ejecting the final part. |
